Widbrook Grange - Our Romantic Getaway
All parents NEED a break... I think we forget in the madness of parenthood to take care of ourselves, whether that be yourself singular, or you and your partner being able to spend some time together without there being little humans throwing food, banging the oven door CONSTANTLY (maybe that one is me specific) or having to shout over their screeches and screams. We get so involved in being parents that we don't think that a break can really make you appreciate what you have and give you an energy boost you didn't realise you were desperately in need of. I didn't appreciate that fully until Chris and I spent a night at the beautiful Widbrook Grange in Wiltshire in June this year.
Chris picked me up from work on Friday evening after dropping the boys off at Grandma's for the night. We headed down the A303 and arrived just after 5 - the perfect time to enjoy a G & T from Widbrook Grange's speciality Gin Bar! The atmosphere was buzzing with merriment as we found a wedding was taking place that evening. The hotel has a small function suite available for weddings and the party were not disruptive.
The Gin Bar
One of the things I was most looking forward to experiencing during our stay at Widbrook Grange was their speciality Gin Bar. It did not disappoint. It boasts an ever growing collection of over 60 craft and award winning Gins, complimented by a range of garnishes, accompaniments and tonics.
After much deliberating, we sat outside in the front courtyard with the sun shining down on us as I enjoyed as Bathtub Gin with Orange and Juniper berries while Chris chose the Gin of the Month; Bertha's Revenge.
I think about the dinner we had on our evening here with great fondness. It has to be one of the evenings that I most cherish in recent years with Chris. The setting was beautiful, the waiting staff were beyond helpful and professional and the dinner was absolute perfection. Chris had the Fish Trio to start, followed by Duck Breast and I had Rabbit and Ham Terrine followed by Pressed Braised Beef Cheek and Rib Duet. We accompanied our meal with a Rioja called 'Solar Viejo,' which we have since ordered more of from a supplier as one of our most favourite wines, served by the waiter with the flourish of a skilled Sommelier. We retired to the living room (which we had all to ourselves) for a whisky and then back to our room, where I fell asleep as my head hit the pillow for one of only a handful of nights without children in the past 4 years.
The Artist's Room
Our room was located at the top of a homely staircase and consisted of a large bedroom with bathtub and a spacious bathroom with a modern shower. The Artist's Room is one of several individually designed themed bedrooms. As you can see from our video and photos, there were lots of 'artistic' flourishes to our room, such as the easel holding the TV and the paint brush these tea and coffee station. Everything in the room was thoughtful and luxurious, making our stay a real treat and made for an unforgettable stay. You can browse the other themed rooms here, including a 'cycling' themed room, including a bicycle fashioned as a sink.
After a very well rested night, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast before heading back into the real world and being reunited with our little boys. There was a choice of continental platters in the form of a buffet, with individual pots of yoghurt and fruit compote which were a highlight for me, and made to order hot breakfasts.
If you are looking for a romantic getaway, we couldn't recommend Widbrook Grange highly enough. Next time we plan to take the boys, as there is plenty of room for them to run in the ground and there is a beautiful swimming pool which we didn't have time to enjoy during our short stay. This beautiful hotel makes guests a priority and succeeds in ensuring your stay is a memorable one in the best way possible. The attention to detail in the quality of furnishings and attention to flavourful dishes was exceptional. To book your stay now, visit their website here. We can't wait to return and hope to here about your visit soon!
We were invited to have a complimentary stay at Widbrook Grange in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.
